The Battle of two NBA Texas Teams: Spurs edge out Mavs 101-100.

Welcome to the start of the 2014-2015 NBA Season. Tonight the first game on TNT was between the Dallas Mavericks and the San Antonio Spurs.  We seen some solid defense from Dallas, and some great ball movement just like the 2014 NBA Finals from the Spurs.  The battle of two NBA Texas Teams the Spurs and the Mavericks. The San Antonio Spurs defeat the Dallas Mavericks in a close game 101-100.   Here below are the top 5 scorers and stats for each of these teams.

Top 5 San Antonio Spurs Scorers

Tony Parker- 23 points, 3 assists, 3 rebounds 9/15 FG, 4/4 3PTFG
Manu Ginobili- 20 points, 6 assists, 2 steals, 2 rebounds, 6/13 FG, 2/6 3PTFG
Marco Belinelli- 15 points, 3 assists, 2 rebounds, 5/8 FG, 3/6 3PTFG
Tim Duncan- 14 points, 13 rebounds, 2 blocks 5/10 FG
Daniel Green- 13 points, 4 rebounds, 5/9 FG, 3/6 3PTFG

Top 5 Dallas Mavericks Scorers

Monta Ellis- 26 points, 6 assists, 4 rebounds, 11/21 FG, 1/2 3PTFG
Dirk Nowitzki- 18 points, 6 rebounds, 7/11 FG
Devin Harris- 17 points, 5 assists, 6/12 FG, 2/53PTFG
Jameer Nelson- 9 points, 3 assists, 3/7FG, 3/53PTFG
Tyson Chandler- 8 points, 10 rebounds, 2 steals, 4/8FG

San Antonio Spurs Thoughts

  1. Marco Belinelli was great in place of Kwahi Leonard who is out with a right eye infection. Belinelli proves to me why I still think the Chicago Bulls were crazy to not resign him last season.  His 15 points, and 3 three point shots were huge.
  2. Tony Parker shot 60 percent from the field, and 100 percent from three.  What a way  to start for Tony Parker who is a top 10 point guard in the NBA. My only complaint is he only had 3 assists, but still a great game with 23 points.
  3. I've heard from Charles Barkley that father time has caught up with this team.  To me this team still plays like they are in their prime to me.
  4. I love the way this team plays unselfishly and moves the basketball.  They pass up a good shot for a great shot.  More teams need to run their system like the Spurs.
  5. Tim Duncan is still playing at a high level.  Duncan getting 14 points and 13 rebounds.  He's the reason I start watching the Spurs and coach Gregg Popovich.

Dallas Mavericks Thoughts

  1. Monta Ellis is an underrated shooting guard in the NBA. His stats tonight were impressive to me.  His 26 points were helpful in spite the Mavs lost.
  2. Devin Harris scoring 17 points off the bench.  I don't know if I'll see all star Devin Harris again like in 2009 with the New Jersey Nets, but I liked what i saw from him.
  3. Dirk Nowitzki still showing he's got game with his 7 of 11 shooting from the field.
  4. I was disappointed with Chandler Parsons who only scored 5 points on 2 of 10 shooting.  I hope Parsons will step up next game and I feel he will.
  5. Tyson Chandler having 10 boards.  It's nice to see him back in Dallas again.  They should have kept him and I feel they would have won another title.  So hopefully this time will be just as good as the last.  Chandler brings that rim protection that I feel they so desperately need.
