Top 5 MVP Candidates for the 2014-2015 NBA Season

This off season has been interesting to say the least. I will talk about that in the coming days.  Right now though I want to talk about who I believe will be the top 5 candidates to win MVP for the 2014-2015.  I admit I have a sleeper in this list.

5.  Anthony Davis-  In the 2012-2013 season rookie 6 foot 10 power forward slash center Anthony Davis averaged 13.5 points per game, 8.2 rebounds per game, 1.8 blocks per game and 1. 2 steals per game.  In the 2013-2014 season the New Orleans Pelicans power forward jumped up his scoring by over 7 points per game.  Power forward Anthony Davis improved by scoring 20.8 points per game, 10 rebounds per game, led the league with 2.8 blocks per game, 1.6 assists per game, and 1.3 steals per game.  Anthony Davis is a rising star in the NBA, and at only 21 years of age, I can't wait to see what the future holds for him.  I'm curious to see what he does in the 2014-2015 NBA season.  I think he will average 24 points per game, 12 rebounds and 3 blocks per game.  While I don't believe that Anthony Davis will win the MVP this year, I believe he will in the future.  The way Anthony Davis has improved at a rapid pace leads me to put him as a top 5 2014-2015 MVP candidate.

4. John Wall-  Why do I have John Wall on my list?  I think he's going to have a great season this year.  In the 2013-2014 season, John Wall the 6 foot 4 point guard out of the University of Kentucky averaged 19.3 points per game, 8.8 assists per game, 4.1 rebounds per game and 1. 8 steals per game.  Wall shot 43.3 % from the field, 35.1% from three point land, and 80.5% from the free throw line.  I think if John Wall was to remain healthy all season, I believe he will average 23 points per game, 9 assists and shoot 45 percent from the field.  I may be reaching with this player, but I just feel that Wall is going to have an incredible breakout season for the Washington Wizards.  If it wasn't for players 3,2 and 1 on my list, I believe John Wall would win the MVP.

3. Blake Griffin-  The 6 foot 10 power forward out of the University of Oklahoma, is one of my favorite athletic players in the NBA.  I think his nickname should be "Box Office Blake".  He is one of the most incredible dunkers in the NBA right now, and would love to see both him and Lebron in a dunk contest.  Power forward Blake Griffin improved from 18 points per game to 24.1 points per game in the 2013-2014 NBA season.  Blake Griffin not only averaged over 24 points per game,he averaged 9.5 rebounds per game, 3.9 assists per game, and 1.2 steals per game.  Box Office Blake shot 52.8 % from the field and improved his free throw shooting from 66 % to 71.5 %.  I think having Doc Rivers as a coach and having a top 5 NBA point guard Chris Paul to pass to him helps his game. I have Blake in 3rd place to win the MVP vote behind players 2 and 1 on this list.

2. Lebron James-  The 6 foot 8 small forward born in Akron Ohio signed this off season back with the Cleveland Cavaliers after winning 2 titles in the last 4 seasons with the Miami Heat.  In the 2013-2014 NBA season, Lebron James averaged 27.1 points per game, 6.9 rebounds per game, 6.4 assists per game, and 1.6 steals per game.  King James shot 56.7% from the field, 37.9% from three point land, and 75% from the free throw line.  Lebron will have a new supporting cast with players like point guard Kyrie Irving, power forward Kevin Love, shooting guard Dion Waiters, and power forward Tristan Thompson.  I personally can't wait to see what Lebron does this season.  He is one of my favorite players in the NBA, because he wants to win, has a high character and is unselfish.  Yes Lebron likes to score but he also like to get his teammates involved. Whether you love or hate Lebron, he is one of the best players in the NBA right now.  I believe he will finish second behind the player I have number one on this list.

1. Kevin Durant-  The 6 foot 9 small forward born September 29, 1988, had an MVP season last year by scoring 32 points per game, 7.4 rebounds, 5.5 assists and 1.3 steals per game.  Kevin Durant shot 50.3% from the field, 39.1% from three point land, and 87.3 % from the free throw line.  In the 2013-2014 NBA season Kevin Durant was named the league's most valuable player.  He had a 12 game streak where he scored at least 30 or more points during that 12 game span. Do I believe KD will repeat his performance from last year?  I believe Durant will.  I am going to vote that Kevin Durant will win the MVP again this season.
