My top ten point guards as of Sept 27,2013 ( Not necessarily my favorite)
Point Guards are great players to have on a profession basketball team. Point Guards are generally the quarterback of the team. Every NBA team needs a great floor general to get things rolling. Not every team though has a great point guard. Who are the top ten point guards? Here is my list of the top ten point guards in the NBA.
1) Chris Paul- He is not my favorite point guard but I think he is the best in the NBA. He gets the team involved in plays. Paul can score if necessary for the Los Angeles Clippers. He usually gets Blake Griffin and others involved in the offense. Clippers were very smart to resign him to a five year contract.
2) Tony Parker- Some might say he too washed up. Parker still plays with high intensity for the San Antonio Spurs. I thought for most of last year he was the MVP. It doesn't hurt when you have Tim Duncan, Kwahi Leonard, Manu Ginobili or Tiago Splitter to feed the ball too.
3) Russell Westbrook- This guy to me is the most interesting point guard in the NBA. He is interesting because I never know if he is going to pull a Steve Nash and get his team involved or be like Iverson and try to score. Westbrook has moments where he lacks judgment but what point guard doesn't at times. The injury to him I think hurt the Thunder chances to go back to the NBA Finals.
4) Derrick Rose- I know last year he didn't play at all. If I were to pick as favorite he would be my number one. Rose can get to the rim and throw down a dunk. Rose also gets his team involved. D-Rose is my favorite player in the NBA. I do root for him to win an NBA Championship with the Chicago Bulls. Rose sometimes does seem more like a two guard than a point guard. A lot of point guards today though seem more like a shooting guard than a point guard. I think that's okay though and you have to have a point guard that can score. Rose can score.
5) Kyrie Irving- Irving is an upcoming point guard who can play. I can't forget that when he pulled that crossover move on Brandon Knight last year. Irving to me is the franchise in Cleveland right now. A great piece for the Cavaliers to build around. I can only see Irving get even more better.
6) Rajon Rondo- Rondo is a pure point guard to me. Rondo doesn't really score much. He can rebound well for a play his size. Rondo reminds me of Jason Kidd but not quite as good of a jump shot. Rondo is a playmaker in all sense of the word.
7) Stephen Curry- Curry was the first player in NBA history to have over 500 assists and 250 three point shots in the same season. I am shocked at how many teams passed on him in the 2009 NBA Draft. If I'm a defender I try to suffocate Stephen with intense defense so he doesn't drain three pointers all day on me. Curry can pull up and hit his shots. Curry is one of the big reasons the Warriors are a top five team in the Western Conference this NBA Season.
8) John Wall- Wizards made a right decision in giving Wall a five year contract. Other teams would have tried to snatch him up. I want to see him play all season. I admit though I like Wall. He is quick and can flat out ball. I'm loving the Wizards future with Wall and Bradley Beal. Hope he gets to play all season this year. I don't have his Wizards making the playoffs but he can get them there. Maybe not this year but next more than likely. If he improves his jumpshot he will be more dangerous.
9) Ricky Rubio- I generally would have Rubio up higher. Rubio to me does though have to be a top ten. He has passing skills that just amaze me a bunch. If him and Love can both remain healthy all season then the T-Wolves I believe get in the playoffs this year.
10) Ty Lawson- Lawson is so amazing for his size. Ty can flat out score or make the offense run. I love Denver Nuggets fast paced offense. I hope they stick with that under new coach Brian Shaw. I still will not to this day understand why T-Wolves drafted him only to trade him. Lawson was a draft steal for the Nuggets.
This was a tough list to compile for me. I do like other point guards as well. Those who I have runner ups are
Jrue Holiday- New Orleans Pelicans
Damian Lillard- Portland Trailblazers
Jeremy Lin- Houston Rockets
