Pro Basketball Hoops Land: Top 5 Kevin Love Trades

It is rumored that Kevin Love doesn't want to resign with the Minnesota Timberwolves when his contract his up.  There are many teams that are rumored for him to go to (Golden State Warriors, Chicago Bulls, Houston Rockets are just some of the teams.  I went to ESPN Trade Machine and did the trades for fun.  I find out the contracts work.  I didn't get to include the draft picks in those trades.  So with that being said here are my top 5 trades for All Star Minnesota Power Forward Kevin Love.

Trade 1: Minnesota trades Kevin Love to Chicago, Chicago trades Taj Gibson, Mike Dunleavy, Tony Snell, 2014 Draft Picks 16th and 19th. Why I think this works for Chicago: This works because Chicago gets a power forward who can stretch the defense, and help Noah on the boards. Love isn't good on defense, but Noah makes up for Love's shortcomings on the defense end. Why I think this works for Minnesota: T-Wolves get a young PF in Taj Gibson who can ball, get a wing shooter in Mike Dunleavy, young wing player Tony Snell who is a young piece, also having 16th and 19th pick in this draft could be a different maker for the T-Wolves in rebuilding for the future. Both teams I feel would win in this trade.

Trade 2: Minnesota trades Kevin Love to Golden State, Golden State trades David Lee, Harrison Barnes and a 1st round 2015 NBA Draft Pick. Why I think this works for Golden State: Imagine the three point shooting of Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson and Kevin Love. Curry, Thompson and Love on the floor would give opposing defenses a matchup nightmare out on the perimeter. Why I think this works for Minnesota: Minnesota gets a proven power forward in David Lee who is a 20-10 guy when healthy. Harrison Barnes is a young piece who could possibly get some playing time in Minnesota. Having an extra draft in 2015 wouldn't hurt the T-Wolves any.

Trade 3: Minnesota trades Kevin Love to Phoenix, Phoenix trades Channing Frye, Alex Len, Marcus Morris, Markieff Morris and all three first round draft picks (14th pick possibly, 18th pick and 27th pick). Why I think this works for Phoenix: Phoenix gets a power forward who could play alongside Eric Bledsoe (possibly if Bledsoe resigns with the team), Goran Dragic, Gerald Green and Miles Plumlee who has become solid. Phoenix is much closer to the playoffs than Minnesota is. Why this works for Minnesota: They replace one PF three point shooter with another one in Channing Frye, they get young assists in Alex Len, Marcus Morris and Markieff Morris. Adding all three first round draft picks in the 2014 NBA Draft would be icing on the cake for the T-Wolves. Will the T-Wolves be great in one season? No, but they would have some young pieces to build towards for the future.

Trade 4: Minnesota trades Kevin Love to Houston, Houston trades Omer Asik, Jeremy Lin, 2014 draft pick (25th pick) and 2015 draft pick. Why I think this works for Houston: putting Kevin Love next to Dwight Howard would be incredible and exciting to watch. You lose a backup PG in Jeremy Lin, but picture the rebounding of Howard and Love on the court. Why I think this works for Minnesota: I think Omer Asik would be interesting to see in Minnesota. Pek and Asik would be awesome on defense. Asik is a top 20 starting center in the NBA. Adding Jeremy Lin could give the T-Wolves some depth off the bench. Getting two more draft picks, one for 2014 and one for 2015 couldn't hurt the T-Wolves any.

Trade 5: Minnesota trades Kevin Love to Boston: Boston trades Jared Sullinger, Kelly Olynyk, Gerald Wallace, 2014 1st round draft picks (possibly 5th and 17th) 2015 1st round draft pick. Why I think this works for Boston: Boston would have a power forward who can rebound and space the floor. Rondo would have someone who can score 25 points per game to pass the ball to. Boston also gets rid of the contract of Gerald Wallace. Why I think this works for Minnesota: You get young pieces in Kelly Olynyk and Jared Sullinger. The downfall is you have to take on the contract of Gerald Wallace, but to trade off Kevin Love you have to take on something. Wallace could be an average defender off the bench for the T-Wolves. T-Wolves can score but not play good defense. You also possibly get a top 5 draft pick to build your franchise around, and a 17th pick who could be a decent player.

Please understand I'm not saying these are the greatest trade ideas, but I want to hear your comments on what you think of them. What trades would you do to get Kevin Love to your favorite franchise? Send me your comments. Thank you for reading Pro Basketball Hoops Land. Stay tuned later this week or next week for my 2014 NBA Mock Draft.
