Top 3 Players for the Los Angeles Lakers to target with the 7th pick of the 2014 NBA Draft: Plus Free Agency

The Los Angeles Lakers are going to get the 7th pick in the 2014 NBA Draft.  They need to get a franchising changing player, or at least for now get a second option to help Kobe Bryant.  Here are the top 3 players I believe that the Los Angeles Lakers need to target on draft night of the 2014 NBA Draft.  Please understand I don't watch a lot of college basketball compared to pro.  I just wanted to be honest with my readers about this.

Top 3 Players for the Los Angeles Lakers to target with the 7th pick

  1. Julius Randle-  From what I saw this season, Randle doesn't start the games too good.  When the second half comes though, I would watch out for Randle. I've seen him start to take over games.  Randle has incredible rebounding, can knock down the mid-range jumper, and I've seen him hit some three's a few times.   Randle can be a double-double machine, which would be benefical for the Lakers.   I would compare Randle to Zach Randolph.
  2. Aaron Gordon-  energetic athletic power forward who plays with a lot of hustle and energy.  Gordon reminds me a bit of Denver Nuggets power forward Kenneth Faried.   Good defender with a lot of athleticism, and high intangibles.  I think that if Julius Randle is gone, and Gordon is still on the board you take him if you're the L.A. Lakers.
  3. Marcus Smart- Smart is a point guard who can get to the rim.  Smart loves to win.  I think if the Lakers make the right moves in free agency, and draft Smart they could become a playoff team again.  Smart is a good on ball defender.  Marcus Smart also has good passing. Learning from Steve Nash would be huge for Marcus Smart.  I'm high on Randle or Gordon with this pick.  I don't think you could go wrong with Smart with the 7th pick.

So what are your thoughts on draft night with my three choices if I were the Lakers?   Who should the Lakers target in free agency?  I think they should sign Luol Deng. Deng loves to win.  If Kobe stays healthy, and the Lakers draft one of the three players I selected, I think the Lakers could possibly make the playoffs next year. Send me your comments on what you think. Thank you for reading Pro Basketball Hoops Land. I'm more than likely going to be taking off from this blog after July to work on this blog, and my other blogs.
